Purpose Short Screenplay - A Futuristic Drama Synopsis - Melvin works in a world of cubicles. Almost everyone who works in the enormous complex works in a cubicle. They all arrive at the same time. They all leave at the same time. In-between they all eat the same food, drink the same drinks ... all at the same time. This is the world of C4U a world of clones who know little more than unvarying labor and constant reminders that they have a purpose. In this future world where clones are created for a price they have become a commodity ... a future slave class. But, as in the past, the only purpose a slave has is to produce a profit. Gone are the whips and shackles, replaced by a rigorous work regimen and a bombardment of cozy big-brother messages, but what does a closed society do when one of them begins to fail? Melvin has a little health problem and it has created waves within the form and structure of the organization. He is directed by his superior to go to the infirmary so that he can take care of this issue but he refuses, he has observed that whenever anyone goes to the infirmary they come back ... different. Finally he is summoned to a meeting with Mr. White, the organization's charismatic Director, viewed by everyone as an almost divine leader. Mr. White has a special way of enlightening all of his charges and every so often he has to take someone under his wing and explain the real meaning of purpose. Melvin is soon to learn the terrible nature of his purpose, but in the end everything will be just fine. iIf you would like to read this screenplay, please contact me at marccalderwood@hotmail.com |

Melvin Too Short screenplay - A Futuristic Dark Comedy Synopsis - Melvin Zabadouski has purchased a plant-clone. This will bolster his current income and support him into retirement. In this future world, a time when people live a healthy one-hundred and fifty with great regularity, no-one with any means wants to work for a hundred years. Purchasing a clone to work for you allows you the freedom to live the life everyone dreams of, a life of real leisure while someone else earns your paycheck. Melvin and his difficult, backbiting wife have been called to the C4U plant to visit with Mr. White. The plant Director has some disturbing news. Melvin's first clone Melvin 2 was taken off-line (see Purpose) several years ago, and replaced with Melvin 3. Now, Melvin 3 is exhibiting problems and may need to be replaced. Mrs. Zabadouski is not at all pleased with this and threatens to make Melvin's life even more miserable if this costs any additional money. In a strange turn of events Melvin gets an opportunity to meet his clone, Melvin 3, face to face. Under normal circumstances this is never allowed as it would create havoc within the form and structure of the organization, but Melvin and Melvin 3 are less concerned with form and structure than they are the current condition of their respective lives. They will make a decision that has far reaching repercussions and change both of their lives. iIf you would like to read this screenplay, please contact me at marccalderwood@hotmail.com |

The Clone Chronicles Feature Length Screenplay - A Futuristic Drama Synopsis - In the not-too-distant future, the global corporate entity, C4U Inc., will offer the most tantalizing consumer product ever placed on the open market. A product that will allow the first, tangible opportunity to truly live the American Dream, total pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. In the not-too-distant future, the single largest investment won't be your car, your education or your home. The single largest investment will be your clone. It will be an expensive investment, but one that will secure a toil-free life. While your time is spent in pursuit of those things that make life worth living, your DNA replicant will continue to perform its sole purpose ... earning your paycheck. Melvin works in a controlled environment, built and maintained specifically for clone investments. Everyone in the colossal C4U (Clones 4 U) data processing plant is a clone, except Melvin. Thirteen years ago Melvin lived outside the plant. He invested in his own clone hoping to improve his life. But, his life became less than improved, in fact it became intolerable. One day, during a visit to the C4U plant to view his investment, Melvin realizes that his clone is better off than he is. At that moment, Melvin does something totally unexpected, something secret and something that alters the course of history. Melvin Zabadouski changes places with his clone, Melvin 2. After more than a decade in the regimented world of clones, Melvin has become a better clone than he was a human. Outperforming many clones, he gains the coveted Yellow Shirt position and with it, new duties, new information. For some time, Melvin has been aware of peculiar changes in clones that report to the infirmary. His suspicions are confirmed when, as newly appointed team leader, he is told to have his friend, the clone Burt, report to the infirmary for "adjustment." Melvin enters the world of clones as a man who is haunted with the hollow gnawing fear of his own insignificance. Now, that fear is replaced by the desire to save his friend, and for the second time Melvin does something totally unexpected. Melvin Zabadouski escapes and takes Burt with him to a world Burt doesn't know exists, the world beyond the walls of C4U. As they wander through the hills towards the city (the previous home of Melvin's intolerable life), Melvin teaches Burt about the outside world and touches tenderly on the differences between Homo Sapiens and Homo Replicants. They tramp through the woods, through sunlit forests and delightful streams, until one afternoon they hear the distant baying of hounds. The long, dark arm of corporate interest is in pursuit. The powerful C4U makes its own rules as to how clones are treated. As long as it "appears" that the replicant beings are treated well, no one bothers to look too closely. The disappearance of two plant clones is not only unacceptable, but alarming in its possible consequences. C4U hires the worlds best clone tracker to hunt down Melvin and Burt and bring them back for "adjustment." Concerned enough to take personal interest, one of C4U's largest shareholders sends his own private clone tracker to assist in the hunt. In a chase that lasts several days, Burt and two of three clone trackers are killed. Finally, worn and weary, Melvin surrenders to the last tracker and is hauled away to learn the secret behind this new captor. Over a decade ago, Melvin changed places with his clone. While Melvin played clone, Melvin 2 became human. In fact, Melvin 2 became a better human than he was a clone. When Melvin 2 left the plant, what he took with him was the slave-like work habits of a clone and the information amassed from the C4U data processing environment. These, he learned to wield deftly on an unsuspecting world. In the space of a few years, he became one of the wealthiest men on the planet. Now, man and clone meet again. Melvin Zabadouski, a man who spent most of his life wrestling with the fear of insignificance, has learned that it is only in our minds that we are less than we are. Melvin 2, a clone who suspected more of life, has had the life he instinctively knew was there. He has loved, laughed, lived as a real person ... he has seen the sky. But under the sky there is pain and sadness, and even in seemingly perfect clones, genetic anomalies exist. Melvin 2 lingers between life and death, he has waited only for Melvin's return. Within a short lifetime, Melvin 2 has built not only an empire of wealth but the instrument that could put an end to the power of C4U. This underground railroad of the 21st Century exists to free clones from humans and now, Melvin 2 turns this power over to Melvin Zabadouski. All that remains is to change places, one final time. iIf you would like to read this screenplay, please contact me at marccalderwood@hotmail.com |
